It's a bit faster and smoother, but the Inboard is a solid board as well. Is it worth the price difference? While the Mellow is a better board, it's not $1400 better. I just looked up the price of the boards, and the Mellow runs for $2400 and the Inboard goes for $1000. Of course, the modular nature of the Mellow is attractive, but I am sure that the components for the board do not have to be in such a chunky form factor. However, the Mellow is lighter than the Inboard, though not by a whole lot, it still makes it more pleasant to carry around. It's integrated design is visually much more appealing than having a fat box at the bottom of the back of the board. Overall, the inboard is a much better looking board. While this is subjective, as an Industrial Designer, I couldn't not comment on it. Also, while the Inboard gives you the option to stop and go on the board, you always have to kick start the Mellow. With the mellow, you have to turn on the board and battery separately. The nice thing about the Inboard is that you just start the board with your remote. The braking on the Inboard is much smoother, reacts immediately, and works well. I can see how this might not be a huge deal if you get used to it, but if you need to stop suddenly, it can be dangerous. It kicks in a split second later than you would expect, and the brake is harder than the Inboard. There is however, there were some areas where the Inboard was better.įor some reason, the Mellow has a delayed response for the brake. The Mellow just rolls while the Inboard slows down rather quickly. This is also evident when you take you take your finger off the accelerator. It is not fun pushing the Inboard when it runs out of batteries. I tried riding the Mellow without turning it on, and while it was a bit heavier, it still behaved much like a normal board. It's definitely not good to be loud here since it is illegal. I live in Germany, and I get looks all the time because of the noise. I could not believe how quiet the Mellow was. It accelerated harder and also had a smoother acceleration curve. While I didn't do a speed test on the Mellow. My Inboard tops out at 20mph, not sure if every board is like that, but mine was never able to hit the advertised 24mph. Overall, I found the Mellow to be better than the Inboard in almost every area though. I know the Inboard has a bad rep on this sub, but I've never had much problems with it other than it not meeting it's advertised top speed and battery life. The design is very different, but the two boards share similar specs. Since I don't see a whole lot of posts about Mellow on here, I thought I would share my thoughts. My friend at work was lucky enough to be one of the early backers for the Mellow Drive, so he was able to get it for something like 1000 euros. I own an Inboard M1, and it's the only board I have ridden until today.
